Muriel's Baklava print close
INGREDIENTS:

1 package phyllo dough

1 T ground cinnamon mixed with

2 tsp sugar

1 stick butter (melted)

chopped fresh walnuts

about 2 cups good quality honey

half lemon, squeezed


DIRECTIONS:
  1. Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Place a pan of water on the bottom rack.

  2. Layer in a pan butter (on bottom of pan), phyllo, melted butter about 5 times. Keep the unused portion of phyllo always covered with a slightly damp cloth.

  3. Layer nuts and lightly cover with cinnamon sugar.

  4. Repeat several times, ending with layers of phyllo. (top and bottom layer can have more layers of phyllo, less in middle.

  5. Cut with a large knife diagonally to form diamond shaped pieces.

  6. Reduce oven to 300 degrees and bake about 1 1/2 hours until brown.

  7. Heat honey and lemon juice gently until runny.

  8. Remove baklava from oven and pour the honey mixture over it.

  9. Wait for it to cool a little while if you can, and remove pieces with spatula.
